Does God Have a Myspace tour

Does God have a Myspace tourDoes God Have a My Space' is a highly interactive, multi-media event for young people aged between 11-18 and is part of a National YFC tour and presentation. It features Paul Flavel and Kate John, YFC's National Evangelists and is an excellent youth event.

MySpace and Facebook are phenomenons. It is the place where young people communicate with each other, express themselves and learn about the world around them. With this in mind, YFC have created this brand new event that unlocks the potential of MySpace for communicating to young people the revolutionary message of our unstoppably creative God.

The tour is being hosted in the north-east by YFC on Friday 27th June at The Oakwood Centre in Eaglescliffe and on Saturday 28th June at Emmanuel College in Gateshead. Both evenings will start at 7.30pm and the cost will be £3 per person.

Changes at YFCne

We have recently said goodbye to two of our Reflex team, Joanna Harrison and Phil Longhurst. We really miss their input but are still in contact with them in their new roles. This means that we have a number of Job vacancies in the Reflex team working in young offender’s institutes in the region. Please see the vacancies page for more information.

The Big Sleep

The Big SleepThe Big Sleep took place on Friday 2nd May and was an amazing overnight homeless experience for young people. About 200 young people took part in the event sleeping rough inside St Nicholas’ Cathedral in Newcastle and Stockton Parish Church where hundreds of pounds were raised for local and national homeless charities. A group of young people will be coming together to decide which charities will benefit from the money that was raised on the night.

NE1 Year Teams and Durham YFC

NE1This year we have 9 new NE1 year team members based in YFC centres throughout the North East. This gap year is designed as a youth apprenticeship that allows our young people in the area to give a year to God and advance his kingdom here in the North East. If you are interested in being a part of next years team click on the NE1 logo.
The team over the last year has played an important part in launching a new centre in Durham which has recently opened. For more information about this new centre and the work it will be doing in the Durham area please email office@durhamyfc.co.uk

Reflex

ReflexOur prison work has been given a new look! ‘Reflex’ is the name of the new model of prison ministry initiated by National YFC, which seeks to standardise prison ministry across the country. Reflex offers creative arts projects, one off missions, Christian courses and resettlement options through ‘Caring for Ex-Offenders’. For us this means that the work we do isn’t changing, but coming under the branding of Reflex. This means that we, and other YFC centres, can be recognised by funders, prison staff and inmates as part of a common, wider programme delivered by many Christian organisations across the country. For more information about the work of Reflex click on the logo.

Dependance

Dependance have just finished 6 week long missions in North east schools as part of their Mercury tour – reaching every high and secondary school in the region.  They have all been very successful and we have seen packed out gigs and great interest from students at all schools visited.  Some great stories have come out of these schools which they visited in January and February. Prudhoe Community high school was a great success, the students loved the lessons and the gig was amazing with 23 responding to the gospel and all of them being followed up with ongoing support from regular schools workers in there from the Appetite project in Tyne Valley. It was especially great to see many of those that responded from year 11 at IXth hour that month, they are now linked strongly to the Christian lunchtime groups that happen on Wednesdays and are in regular contact with Carol Tree and Julia Myles – youth workers in the school from local churches.  Another great story comes from All Saints school in Stockton, the school already has an excellent chaplaincy team and Tees Valley YFC workers in there so there is a lot of work going on in there.  Dependance had some great conversations with pupils during the week and 150 came to the Thursday night gig.  There we saw 25 respond to the gospel and they are being linked to the Rock Solid and Revolution groups that take place in the area – we had an excellent week working alongside Emile Van Loo (TV YFC) and Father Clay (Chaplain) who are running lunchtime Chapel groups every day as so many pupils want to attend and are interested in the Christian faith.

Harvest

HarvestThe dates for Harvest 08 have now been announced. After many years at Witton Castle Holiday Park the site is no longer available to book. Our new site has excellent facilities and is located near Stokesley in Teesside.  As a result we have had to change the dates from the normal August Bank holiday weekend to Wednesday 13th August to midnight on Sunday 17th August (Please leave by 11am on Monday 18th August). We hope that this change does not affect you from coming along. For more information go click on the Harvest page below or go to www.harvestonline.org.uk

IXth Hour

IXth HourIXth Hour continues to attract around 750 young people to each event. The programme continues to be packed full of new things including performances from local Christian bands such as Good Question and interviews with new Christian organisations with links to the North East such as Freed Fashion. Click on the logo for details of the next event.

  • In Prison, please pray that people will apply for the current vacancies and that the alpha groups that take place currently in Low Newton will help the women learn more about God.
  • For Dependance, please pray for openings within new schools and for great conversations with teachers in those schools.
  • Events: We would love to see 200 more young people at IXth Hour regularly attending, and that they would encounter God in a deep and lasting way.
